About Me

My name is Tam May and I’m an author and blogger.

I grew up in the United States and earned my B.A. and M.A in English. I worked as an English college instructor and EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teacher before I became a full-time writer. I started writing when I was fourteen and writing became my voice. I write contemporary and historical literary fiction, specifically psychological fiction, creating stories about characters from the inside out. My first book, a collection of contemporary short stories titled Gnarled Bones And Other Stories was published in 2017 and nominated for a Summer Indie Book Award.

I’m currently working on a historical family drama trilogy titled The Waxwood Trilogy. Set in Northern California, the series explores crumbling family relationships in the midst of revolutionary changes and shifting values in America’s Gilded Age. The central focus of the trilogy is the Alderdices, an aristocratic and socially prominent San Francisco family.

My love of puzzles includes both characters and plot so I also writes historical mystery fiction.I’m currently working on a series entitled The Paper Chase Mysteries. The series, set in Northern California at the turn of the 20th century, features amateur sleuth and stationary shop owner Adele Gossling, a product of her time — young, progressive, enthusiastic for change, one of the century’s modern New Women.

I live in Texas but call San Francisco and the Bay Area, where much of my fiction is set, home. When I’m not writing, I’m reading classic literature and watching classic films.
